dc.descriptionAbstract: Sludge is an inevitable product of water and wastewater treatment. The treatment and disposal of these materials is often the most costly aspect of the overall operation. The use of alum and other metallic chemicals for coagulation and other purposes has increased significantly in both water and wastewater treatment in recent years. These chemicals not only increase the total volume of sludge produced but very significantly influence its characteristics. This report describes a number of processes for sludge treatment and disposal and recommends those best suited for military facilities.-
