Description: | Special Report From the Introduction: A delegation of 15 U.S. scientists and engineers representing federal and state agencies, industry, and universities specializing in problems of seasonally and perennially frozen ground visited China during the period 15-31 July, 1984 (Table 1). The 16-day visit was in return for a U.S.-hosted visit of a Chinese delegation to Alaska and the West Coast in July 1983 as part of the Fourth International Conference on Permafrost (see Appendix C). The trip was organized by the Ministry of Railways and was co-hosted by the Academia Sinica's Institute of Glaciology and Cryopedology in Lanzhou. The U.S. Committee on Permafrost of the National Research Council organized the U.S. participation. Table 2 shows the detailed itinerary for the 16-day visit. The route partly followed that taken by a Canadian frozen-ground delegation in 1977, which went to both Mangui and Chintao (Jintao). |
