Description: Special Report
Abstract: The basic principles of phase equilibrium thermodynamics are reviewed. These principles are used to derive several useful relations such as osmotic pressure and Kelvin's equation. Several examples are given of the application of thermodynamics to cold regions materials such as grain growth in wet snow and capillary condensation in rocks.
