Description: | Special Report Abstract: Deployment alternatives for the U.S. Army Ribbon Bridge on a waterway covered with 24-in.-thick ice were investigated. Ice clearing methods using a bulldozer, ice tongs, chain saws and the hoists available on the bridge transporter trucks all worked with varying degrees of success. Sections of the Ribbon Bridge were deployed directly on the ice cover, a procedure that has potential but that also has problems and unanswered questions. |
