Special Report-
Abstract: This report provides technical documentation for the computer code SNTHERM.89, which is a one-dimensional mass and energy balance model of snow and frozen soil. The model is structured using a simplified mixture theory and addresses coupled mass and heat flow, phase change and snow metamorphism. The underlying theory and numerical equations are presented. Included are detailed descriptions of the computation of the energy fluxes at the air/snow interface and of optional routines for estimating short- and long-wave radiation on horizontal and sloped surfaces.-
