Description: Special Report
From the Introduction: Natural environment is, to a large extent, governed by weather and climate, which, in turn, are governed by meteorological elements. Since most of the meteorological elements are a function of time - both time of day and time of the year - a thorough analysis of meteorological data, particularly radiation quantities, requires an exact knowledge of the solar altitude at the time of measurement. This also holds for the long period of twilight in polar regions, analysis of which also requires some knowledge of negative solar altitudes. Because of the pertinence of such knowledge, a table of solar altitudes as a function of time was prepared for a certain high geographical latitude and is presented in this report. The latitude + 77°10' was chosen because several arctic stations are located on or near that latitude. The table can also be used for the corresponding southern latitude, -77°10', and, with a lesser extent of accuracy, for adjacent latitudes.
