Abstract: This report discusses practical analytical methods for evaluating the seismic safety of intake towers. Methods of various degrees of sophistication and conservatism are examined which approximately consider linear structural dynamic behavior and site-specific earthquake motion. The need for further research to incorporate other considerations is explained.
