Abstract: The objective of this literature review is to provide a base of information concerning the failure of granular base courses in flexible pavements. Topics which are addressed may be divided into two categories: materials and pavement structures. The presentation of these topics stresses aspects which are significant for pavements. Topics on mechanical properties include the effects of aggregate gradation, moisture condition, and confining stress. Topics on mathematical modeling include resilient stress-strain, plastic stress-strain, and laboratory testing requirements for model calibrations.-
